The mission of the Southern Maine Biathlon Club is to provide young athletes the opportunity to train and race in the sport of biathlon. The Club's goal is to cultivate community and encourage young people to participate in year round physical activity in the Southern Maine area through a shared interest in biathlon.
SMBC trains athletes in marksmanship and nordic skiing and provides opportunities for them to race in a variety of competitive events. Younger athletes gain experience with air rifles and through a variety of fun, non-competitive activities. Professional training is available for athletes interested in competing at a higher level through support by the staff at the Maine Winter Sports Center in Fort Kent, which is the premier biathlon training facility in the US.
SMBC hopes that more young athletes will gain an appreciation for the sport of biathlon and through their participation in club activities, improve their overall health and physical well-being and pursue nordic skiing as a lifelong interest.
